#23- Edinburgh Castle

#23 - Edinburgh castle, Edinburgh, Scotland

We recently explored the Tower of London and tasted some Toad-in-the-hole. Now we will head back to that part of the world to visit Edinburgh Castle and enjoy some haggis. Who doesn't love sheep's stomach stuffed with?.....yuck.....I'd rather take my chances with the spirits of the castle. Haggis is way scarier...

I must admit a particular fondness for Scotland. It's my favorite country. Ok, so I've never actually been there, but my ancestors are Scottish. And I desperately want a scottish accent. I want to be a wee scottish lass! I love bagpipes and kilts. And I want to marry Robert Roy Macgregor or William Wallace. Wee scottish bad-arses! ...Sorry...i'm dreaming of all things scottish....On to the haunting...

David I builds a fortress high on a rock overlooking the city of Edinburgh around the year 1130. In 1296, Edward I of England invades Scotland and captures the castle after only 3 days. Thus begins a bazillion years of English and Scots fighting over it because none of them could play nice. This also required the building and rebuilding of the castle I don't know how many times because people wouldn't stop blowing the hell out of it. The poor castle. I think there's a battle raging on as we speak. It started last Saturday.

Visitors to the castle have seen a phantom piper, a headless drummer and the spirits of french prisoners of the 7 years war (1932-1997) Shadowy figures, and even the ghost of a dog wanders through the cemetery. Some of the more sinister encounters include a burning  sensation on the arm, something touching your face and hands tugging your clothes. Never mind whatever's lurking down in the ancient dungeons where countless victims were held, tortured (they were forced to eat haggis) and killed.

So that about wraps up our tour of Edinburgh castle. I have to go now because I have a date with some hot scottish lads....

                      *footnote*
Edinburgh is supposed to be one of the most haunted places on earth, but as you can see, I am hardly traumatized. I am too preoccupied thinking about what's waiting for me when I arrive in Scotland....
